What is a cookie policy?

It is the document that informs about the cookies and similar technologies your website uses. Article 22.2 of the LSSI requires the user's consent to install non-technical cookies, and the GDPR governs the data they process. The AEPD's Guidelines on the use of cookies detail how to do this correctly.

Types of cookies

Technical or necessary: essential for the website to work. They do not require consent.
Preference: they remember the user's settings (language, region).
Analytics: they measure use of the website (e.g. Google Analytics). They require consent.
Advertising: they show personalised ads (e.g. Meta Pixel). They require consent.

Is the cookie policy on its own enough?

No. In addition to the text, you need a consent banner that lets users accept or reject non-technical cookies before they are installed, in line with the AEPD guidelines.

Do technical cookies require consent?

No. Those strictly necessary for the site to work are exempt (art. 22.2 LSSI). The rest do require consent.
